RYLIE RAISES AWARENESS

Every year the Spina Bifida Association of Ontario runs a fundraiser called Spirit Wheel Walk Run to raise money for awareness initiatives.  This is especially important because we believe every woman of child bearing age should know to take a multivitamin containing Folic Acid.  Folic acid has been proven to help reduce the risk of neural tube defects (NTD's) by more than 70% if taken before pregnancy.

2012

This year we are raising money by holding a garage sale which we called Rylie Raises Awareness with all proceeds going to SBHAO. We will also have a BBQ and a sucker tree for prizes that will be ran by Rylie herself! We've asked our family and friends to donate items they no longer need or even just provide us with a case of pop/water, etc for us to sell.  Everyone has stuff around the house and we figured we might raise more money selling items then just asking for a straight donation!  The response has been amazing!  The sale isn't until June so let the collecting begin!

You can help out too!  Rylie Raises Awareness is also set up for ONLINE DONATIONS.   Choose Rylie Raises Awareness from the drop down menu and donate what you can.  We really appreciate your support in anyway you can help!

2011

This year we decided not to hold a fundraiser.  It was a busy spring!  Rylie did submit a piece of her art to the lottery calendar we sell in the fall for the Spina Bifida Association.  Her picture was chosen and was published for August...her birthday month!

We called our fundraiser Rylie's Walk for a Reason.  The walk was our main event but we also raised money by selling raffle tickets to some great "fun" packages of donated items.  We contacted area attractions to donate a prize and had a great response.

My aunt held a fundraiser at her church with a percent of sales going to Rylie's walk fundraiser.  Local home party reps sold discounted items and we sent out invitations through social media and email.  We also had a silent auction.  The turnout was good but certainly could of been better with more promotion.

We asked family and friends to sponsor Rylie's walk.  We had intended to go for a walk in a local downtown park but we had a huge storm.  We still wanted everyone to come over for a BBQ since we had a lot of food.  Later in the afternoon, the clouds broke and we took advantage by having our walk in our own neighbourhood.  We walked the paths by our house and ended in the park.

2009

This was our first year participating in the June fundraiser.  Every year we sell lottery calendars in the fall but thought it would be fun to do a walk as well.  Having our birthday in April, Len and I decided to have a party and in lieu of presents, we requested a donation.  We also had family and friends sponsor our walk.

We decided we would go for a walk down our favourite trail in St. Jacob's.
Unfortunately, my camera ran out of batteries.  Upon getting back home, we snapped some photos!

Check our our story in the SBHAO website!
